Egg Donation

Donor eggs offer the possibility of childbearing to women cannot or do not want to conceive with their own eggs. These egg recipients are woman (single or married) under 50. Some women haven’t been able to conceive through IVF, others have a decreased ovarian reserve, others have a hereditary disease which they don’t want to transmit to their offspring and yet others have spontaneous premature ovarian failure or ovarian failure due to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The solution is to receive donor eggs.

Donors
Donors are young, healthy, psychologically stable women who have been tested for infectious and genetic diseases. An important aspect of egg donation in Spain is that it is anonymous. The donor will never know the identity of the woman who receives her eggs and the recipient will never know who her donor is.

ProcreaTec follows Spanish legislation that has permitted anonymous egg donation since 1988 as described in the BOE number 282. Thursday, Nov. 24, 1988. 33373-33378.

How is the cycle programmed?
The recipient undergoes a trial cycle. First, if the woman menstruates a med that suppresses ovarian function is administered. On the 2nd day of the cycle, a low dosage of estrogen is administered twice a day. Every 5 days the dosage is increased. The endometrium is checked periodically and when it is adequate for embryo implantation, estrogen levels are checked in blood. If they are adequate, progesterone is added. When the endometrium becomes more compact and is an adequate thickness, another blood test is performed to check the estrogen and progesterone levels and then an endometrial biopsy is performed. A few days later all the medication is suspended and a period comes.

The doctor evaluates the blood tests and the biopsy if everything checks out the donor begins ovarian stimulation when her period comes. The recipient takes a low dosage of estrogen to maintain adequate hormone levels, which is increased as soon as the donor starts responding to the stimulation medication. The recipient thus waits anywhere from a few days up to a month for the donor to begin stimulation.
