Definition of Infertility

Infertility is usually defined as the impossibility to conceive after a year of unprotected sex. For young, healthy couples around 85% will conceive after a year of unprotected sex and after 2 years about 93% will conceive.

Frequency of Infertility

For most couples, pregnancy is an easy goal. The woman gets pregnant in a few months, the 9 months of pregnancy go by without important incidents and a healthy baby is born. For other couples the path is very different. Conservatively speaking, it has been calculated that 1 in 8 couples will have problems conceiving.

The couples sometimes do not know when to consult, what to consult- there is confusion, depression and sometimes a feeling of despair with all the decisions that need to be taken. An interesting thing is that infertility impacts men as often as it does women.

The male factor is the cause in 30% of the couples consulting, women’s problems add up to 30% of all consults, both male and female factors are found in 30% and 10% of all couples consulting have unexplained infertility.
