Many times after an IVF cycle and embryo replacement with fresh embryos there are extra embryos. Cryopreservation is a procedure that maintains the viability of the embryos that haven’t been used. At a later time, these embryos may be replaced. Pregnancy rates are a little lower than when replacing fresh embryos but the rate is between 30-35%.
Sometimes to increase the implantation rate, hatching with fragment removal is performed before embryo replacement. This is possible starting on day 3 of embryo development.
